How did your business get started and who works at Gomes Photography?

I’ve always enjoyed photography; I mean, who doesn’t? Back in 2009 I decided that I wanted a career which would allow me to be creative, see the world and meet new people. I enjoy watching natural interactions between people so wedding photography was an obvious choice.

Had you always wanted to be a photographer?

No, I wanted to be a civilian airline pilot. I was going to join the RAF and become a transport plane pilot and then convert to civilian aircraft.

Can you remember how old you were when you took your first picture? What was it of?

I remember having an old Kodak Instamatic 333, but that’s about all I can remember.

Which areas of the UK do you cover?

I shoot weddings across the UK, but as I am based in London and on the outskirts of Kent and Essex this is my main area for weddings.

What do you feel sets Gomes Photography apart from other wedding photographers?

I’m not a big fan of taking the bride and groom away for hours on end to get photos. I think what sets me apart is being able to work quickly and get the really cool, dramatic photos in the fraction of the time it would take others. This then gives the couple more time to enjoy their wedding reception.

How would you describe your photography style?

I think most people book me because of my dramatic portraits. I love taking the natural documentary photos too, but it’s the dramatic photos that I would say define my style.

What packages do you offer and what are your rates?

It depends on the wedding, the location and the number of photographers. That said, I am affordable and competitive.

What is the best thing about your job?

I love the emails I get from couples and their families once they’ve seen their photos after the wedding. It’s such a buzz.

Do you have a specialist area of photography?

Yep, weddings.

Who/what are your influences?

When I started out I was heavily influenced by Damian Lovegrove.

Do you have a favourite picture that you have taken (If you can choose!)?

This one…

What is your top tip for choosing a wedding photographer?

Ask your friends and family for recommendations, or ask your wedding venue. Otherwise, try Google. Search for your venue name with ‘wedding photographer’, then you can see photos taken at your chosen venue. Just remember that some of the best photographers aren’t on page one of the Google results.

Random question… What is your favourite food?

Curry, all day long. Jalfrezi, plain rice and garlic naan. Hmmm – think I’ll have that tonight now.

What’s your typical day like?

I take my boy to school in the morning and will then come home and take my doggy out for her walk. If it’s gym day I will go to the gym.

Then it’s back to the office to work on the business. A wedding Photographers life is 20% taking photos, the rest is marketing, PR and editing.
